2008'09 Important Dates and Reminders


Off-Season Conditioning – At the discretion of each school.

Spring Training – March 1 through May 31 – 1st year programs Up to 20 days – After 1st year 12 days.

Football Schedules – Due in League Office – Fri. Aug. 1st

Football Rosters – Due in League Office – Fri. Aug. 1st

Football Liability Wavier Forms – Due in League Office – Fri. Aug. 1st (Must be mailed)

Football Practice Starts – Fri. Aug. 1st (shorts & helments) Wed. Aug. 6th (full pads)

Football Games – Can Officially Begin Fri. Aug. 15th

Fall Sports Fees – Due in League Office – Fri. Sept. 5th ($ 500.00 one or more sports)

Football Rosters – Final updated rosters due in League Office – Fri. Sept. 12th

Football Games – Last day for reg. season games – Fri. Oct. 17th

Football Games – Sub-State Playoffs – Fri. Oct. 24th

Rules Adopted for 8-Man Tackle Football

  • The field is 80 yards long by 40 yards wide. The hash marks are 15 yards in from each sideline and are 10 yards apart.
  • In accordance with the shorter field, team boxes are also shorter. They extend from the 25 yard line to the opposite 25 yard line.
  • The field can be 80 yards long by 50 yards wide, if agreed upon by both teams prior to the game.
  • The 45 point mercy rule – At the point that one team reaches a 45 point lead, there will be a running clock until the end of the game.
  • There are 3 options for extra point try. (1) Kicking for 1–point, the ball is snapped from the 3 yard line. (2) Running or passing for 2-points, the ball is snapped from the 3 yard line. (3) Running or or passing for 1-point, the ball is snapped from the 1 yard line.
  • 5 players are required to be on the L.O.S. Any player who is on the end of the L.O.S. is an eligible receiver. All 3 backs are also eligible receivers.
  • Any numbered jersey may be worn by any player, regardless of position played. There is no numbering requirements as in 11-Man.
  • Kickoffs are spotted at the 30 yard line.
  • Kickoffs that go into the end zone, are brought out to the 15 yard line for play.
  • If a safety occurs, the ball is spotted at the 15 yard line for the free kick.
  • Officials: 4 officials are required for 8-Man Tackle Football.
  • The Clock operator has to be an adult – 18 or older
  • Notice – The ICSGA recognizes the NFHS rules as the Official rules for all sports played in the ICSGA. Other than the rules listed above, the 11 – Man Football Rules will be in effect.
